I never plucked a clay target
[by Joseph Barton 5/14/01]

Cindy and I shot the Ducks Unlimited Shoot at the National Gun Club Saturday, May 12, 2001.  Ducks Unlimited supporters are a great group of people who invest time and energy in the preservation of their sport, duck hunting.

Now that I am spoiled riding around in comfort on my golf cart, my duck hunting days are far and few between.  In fact, the only thing I like about duck hunting these days, is the sporting clays shoots that D.U. throws from time to time.

Hey, I love ducks.  They’re beautiful.  But, they get up too early in the morning!   Dogs, I love dogs.  I have one.  But, after a duck hunt they’re wet, muddy,  and don’t smell too good.  Hey, you know the conditions that are best to hunt ducks are generally miserable, windy, rainy, and often cold to boot.

No, I’ll stick with sporting clays. They fly between 10 and 4.  The nicer the weather, the better they fly. The dog stays nice and clean.

And, if I’m lucky enough to get some, I don’t have to pluck them.
