The Oasis Resort in Mesquite, Nevada hosted this year's
Zone 7 shoot.  Over 400 shooters competed over four days in the
      Arizona desert.
The Oasis is located 80 miles north of Las Vegas and
the gun club is only a short trip from the main facility, just over the
      Arizona border.
Steve Williams (the club's manager), his staff, along
with Connie McElroy, made a tremendous effort running two fourteen station
courses (the River and the Desert), FITASC, Sub Gauges, and the two prelim
      events.
I thought the targets were great especially when you
consider that the wind kicks up in the afternoons in the desert at this
time of year.  I would call it a daunting task to set a course that
has no wind before noon and 30 mile per hour winds with higher gusts in
      the afternoon.
Included in what I considered a low entry fee for the
events, were continental breakfasts and lunches every day.  That made
four breakfasts and four lunches plus the Saturday night dinner.
The Saturday night dinner took place in the Casino's
Convention Center.  Over 300 people were seated at tables with white
linen table cloths.  The executive chef and his staff saw to it that
everyone had a dining experience similar to fine dining rather than what
would be normally expected at a shoot of even this size.
The awards had a retail value of over $50,000.00. The
winners received fine pieces of pottery especially made for this shoot by
the artisans of Mata Ortiz, Mexico.  Also, ten Beretta 391's and
various accessories were given away as door prizes.
In my opinion everyone who attended this shoot came
      home a winner. |
