2006
THE NATIONAL SPORTING CLAYS ASSOCIATION

This booklet has been created in the effort to keep our members, clubs, national delegates, zone delegates and state associations better informed. We want to keep everyone up-to-date in what is going on in our advisory council meetings. This will give everyone a better understanding of the status of the NSCA and our vision for the future.

Membership

Membership has increased by 938 members or 4.5 percent from 2004 to 2005. Please note that 2004 is based on a 15 month year. We changed to the current shooting year of January 1 to December 31 in 2005.

Targets

In 2005 the NSCA threw approximately 240,000 more targets per month than in 2004. In 2004 our clubs threw 1.25 million targets each month and increased to 1.49 million a month in 2005. It is also important to note that 2004 was based on a 15 month shooting year.

Clubs

In 2005 we gained nine new clubs. In 2005 NSCA member clubs hosted approximately 194 shoots a month up from 173 shoots a month in 2004. The NSCA has 639 member clubs of which 222 threw no registered targets in 2005. Headquarters, National Delegates, Zone Delegates and the Advisory Council need to get involved with these clubs and encourage them to host a tournament in 2006.

Competition

Nationals

Visit http://mynsca.com for online registration and downloadable registration forms.
We have added a 10 station, 100 Bird Sporting Practice course for $35.
Our first annual Ladies Tour had been added to the schedule of events. They will be visiting beautiful, historic Gruene, TX for a day of shopping, dining and sight seeing. The tour is limited to 52 people, so sign up early.

The Hall of Fame Banquet has moved to a new location. It will now be hosted at Pedrotti's North Wind Ranch, just minutes from the Complex. The inductees will be named in June at the US Open.

The Pump and Side-by-Side events will be by class this year.
The crowding on the small gauge courses has also been addressed and two more stations have been added, as well as one additional flight to each gauge.

This year you will also be able to rent or bring your own Clays Car to both Parcours de Chasse (FITASC) courses and the Lower Compak course (M - AA).

This year we are creating a media event to draw national media attention to the National Championship. The members of the Open All-American Team will be randomly squadded with other open team members to compete in the Main Event. The six squads will all be shooting on the same course and rotation and will be the last flight out on Sunday. We are hoping to create a “must see” event.

US Open

The 2008 bid form is online at http://mynsca.com.

2007 Dates

World Sporting Championship April 27-29, 2007
US Open June 19-24, 2007
National Championship October 30-November 4, 2007

The 2007 National Championship has been moved to October with the following considerations:

Members have requested the shoot be moved to a month with cooler temperatures. The heat in Texas has been a concern for many shooters and we are hoping that this will encourage more shooters to attend.
Another benefit of moving the shoot to late October is the creation of a longer shooting season, which will help spread out events during the year.
The extra month and a half of shooting will allow for more shoots to be held around the country.
Maintaining sufficient time between the World Skeet Shoot and the Nationals for facility preparation.
We have 17 days to move 114 machines which include 6 stations on the green course, 1 FITASC (4 Parcours), 2 Compak courses, 4 practice fields and 4 game stations, which cannot be set up until the World shoot has been completed.
Targets, banners and Nationals signs also cannot be placed until after the World Shoot has finished.
Daylight savings time was also considered; it begins on November 4, the last day of the Nationals. The last flight of the Main Event on the last day is always the smallest. All other events also finish up early that day to avoid any daylight issues. All shoot-offs can be shot under the lights if needed.
We also considered deer season and realize that it is the opening weekend and it is a tradition for many shooters. Hunting season is two months long and we hope that only missing two days for the National Championship will not out weigh all the benefits of moving the date.
This date move will also be an advantage to out-of-state shooters who wish to stick around for some great Texas hunting.

Awards & Recognition

Nominations for the NSCA Hall of Fame have been accepted and the selectees will be announced at the US Open.

We continue to improve the Museum and are continually looking for new historical items to add to the growing collection.

Delegate/State Associations

We are currently revising the delegate handbook with the updated governance plan.

Outreach

We are currently working on ways to update the mynsca.com website to facilitate the access of information.
Developing a marketing plan to promote our association to both non-shooters and recreational shooters.

International TEAM USA

The members of TEAM USA have been selected. All contracts have been mailed and upon return the names of team members will be posted on the website.

The World Sporting Clays Championship will be held in England this year. While shooting in England we follow the English rules which state that Veteran Team members must be 60 years of age. Any members under the age of 60 were not considered for the team due to this stipulation. There is no Super Veteran category.

Rules, Classification & Safety

Information to be updated at a future date on the website.
