January 30, 2007 (HOUSTON)…American Shooting Centers (ASC), located on 563
acres in Houston’s George Bush Park, recently welcomed John “Mo” Parsons
as its new president and chief operating officer. Parsons previously
handled competitive corporate, charity, and international championship
events at the National Shooting Complex in San Antonio.
Since 2001, Parsons has served as the chief
referee for the National Sporting Clays Association. He represented the
United States in refereeing the 1998, 2002, and 2003 World FITASC
Championships and has been involved as a referee or course designer for
more than 20 international competitions. Parsons is a Level III NSCA
certified instructor, the highest possible teaching rank. He also is
classified as a master shooter. He is frequently sought after as one of
the top sporting clays course designers by shooting centers around the
world. While at the National Shooting Complex, Parsons helped increase
corporate event revenues by 75 percent. He also established new league
events that expanded the facility’s appeal among various target audiences.
“No other professional in the world can
boast the pedigree of management, design, and shooting experience that Mo
brings to American Shooting Centers,” said Ralph O’Connor, ASC chairman.
“We are incredibly lucky to have his talents and his passion for sport
shooting and we know that our patrons will truly benefit from his vision
for the center.”
“American Shooting Centers is competing
with other entertainment options, such as movies and golf, for
recreational dollars,” said Parsons. “Recreational shooting is among the
safest sports available and it is something at which men, women, and
children alike can be almost instantly competitive, so it is appealing to
all types of people. |
Parsons continued, “Our goal is to keep expanding the fun and spirit of
recreational shooting to new audiences.”
Recreational shooting has grown as a sport
for people of all backgrounds and ages. A recent study by the National
Sporting Goods Association reveals that the number of women target
shooters has increased by 50 percent in the last five years.
Additionally,
the number of women hunters increased by 72 percent during the same time
period. Recreation shooting sports are an integral part of youth
development by groups such as 4H, which coordinates one of the largest
recreational shooting programs for youth.
ASC provides shooting and safety lessons
for beginners all the way up to expert marksmen, and coordinates a youth
skeet league. Dozens of corporations and charities leverage ASC’s
offerings for group events involving between 20 and 600 shooters. These
events range from less structured, fun programs to sophisticated theme
events.
