Conoco Sporting Clays Tournament
"Hits the Mark" for Special Olympics Texas
HOUSTON (Apr. 3, 2001) -- Conoco (NYSE: COC.A) (NYSE: COC.B) announced today that its first sporting clays tournament held on March 24,
at the American Shooting Centers, grossed $53,000 -- nearly tripling 2000 tournament proceeds. Funds raised will support Special Olympics Texas
athletic competition and development programs in the greater Houston area.
Some 235 competitors, double the number of 2000 tournament
registrants, enjoyed Tournament amenities such as a specially designed tee
shirt and cap, high quality door prizes, free safety gear, live disc jockey,
barbecue lunch prepared by an award-winning Rodeo cook-off team, and plenty
of freebies. Aside from the fun and frills, the Tournament's sport utility
vehicle grand prizes drew master shooters, such as world-class marksman and
Tournament volunteer instructor Bobby Fowler, and numerous novice hopefuls
who seriously competed for the Toyota 4Runner and Ford Sport Trac. Four participants, including one non-rated shooter, were very close to competing
for the vehicles -- all were one clay away from perfect scores in Conoco's
Lewis Class 50-target tournament.
With the dedication of over 100 volunteers, more than 100 corporate
sponsors and in-kind contributors, and the inspiration of thousands of Special Olympics athletes, the international energy company's first
tournament was a success at providing a safe, fun, and family-oriented sporting clays charitable tournament for a very worthy cause. For more information regarding Special Olympics Texas or the Conoco
