The Dallas Gun Club held its 2000 Closed Club Skeet Championships
over the pre July 4th weekend. The turnout was on par with
prior years events with 55 + shooters.
The
highlight of the weekend was the Saturday evening activities. All
participants and guests enjoyed an excellent steak dinner including
cobbler and ice cream for desert. Along with dinner, participants
benefited from drawings held for door prizes varying from a Remington
1100 shotgun to wildlife prints, outdoor cookers, travel bags, shell
bags and Mont Blanc pens. Allen Steen, our M.C. for the evening, did a
great job of entertaining the participants and presenting awards to our
Friday and Saturday event winners.
There are
many special points to mention about this years event. First, we gained
4 new sponsors. They are; Dick McCallum, C.K. Lawson, Ken Eason and
Hunters Equipment (thanks to Dick McCallum). Secondly, our dinner was
home cooked by our Manager and Club Pro, Jim Tyrrell and Peter Blakely,
respectively (actually, Keith, Mark and the kitchen staff did the hard
work). Dewy Godfrey of Bilss Murski Sales and Buck and Linda Foley are
to be thanked for sponsoring the dinner. Thirdly, we had $1,000 added
money for the shooters sponsored by James Wood Auto Park. Thanks to C.W.
Dagnal who solicited this sponsorship.
In
addition to a fine dinner, we had some fine shooting. C. W. Dagnal was
our Doubles Champion with a 98, Russ Trett was our 12 Ga Champion with a
100, Mike McKool took the 28 ga with a 100, and Rayburn Rash swept the
20 ga, 410 bore and HOA with scores of 100, 99 and 396 respectively.
Allen Steen took HOA Runnerup.
The
Dallas Gun Club is fortunate to have so many generous sponsors for this
event. In addition to the new sponsors, please remember to thank the
following people the next time you see them at the club. Buck and Linda
Foley, Ron Wages & Bubba Wood of Collectors Covey (at Highland Park
Village), Rob Drake of Rob Drake Designs, Mike and Maureen Jury, Curt
Junker of Beretta Gallery (at Highland Park Village) and Ashley
Cornelius and Larry Metzger of Orvis (Preston at Royal)
For those
of you who have not attended many skeet shoots, Monica Ball is the best
there is at organizing and running shoot registration and the
scoreboard. Many thanks to Mary Paxton for helping Monica in this
activity. Speaking of the Paxtons, thanks to Robert for announcing and
running Saturday’s shootoffs and drawings.
